Cross-Country Running Team

Welcome runners! Come and enjoy the beautiful Oakland autumn afternoon sun with runs around Lake Merritt. We welcome runners of all speeds, so please join if you enjoy staying in shape, exercising, and want to run every Tuesday and Thursday. Our runs will range from half a mile to 4 miles and possibly more. Please note that if you do this elective, you will be on the Envision Academy cross country team, and therefore must attend all 5 cross country meets. In addition, in order to get in top shape, students who are planning on playing for the EA basketball team must be on the cross country team. Sports forms can be obtained from Cathy and must be turned in to participate in this elective.

D-MYC (Digitally-Mediated Youth Choir)

This is a contemporary youth choir based on students’ own musical interests and organized around the principles of digital composition and postmodern subjectivity. We’ll learn and practice the basics of vocal performance, as well as the fundamentals of musical composition. But we’ll also create our own repertoire, in a manner that is personally and culturally relevant to the diverse members of the group. We will perform a concert at the end of each semester, with the spring concert showcasing numerous soloists and incorporating original student texts.

Preparing for College

This elective will give juniors and seniors time to explore their post-high school interests, including matching their personality and learning style to college and career pathways. It will also provide seniors more time to work on their college and scholarship applications and allow both juniors and seniors to explore the myriad of colleges available in the US and abroad. Depending on their interest, there may see excerpts of movies on college life and bring in guest speakers to talk about their college experiences.

Step Team

“Stomp the Yard!” The Envision Academy Step Team will be a group of young men and women dedicated to working hard, mentoring the youth, providing community service, helping others, all while representing our school pride! The Step Team will travel throughout California to various colleges stepping at Step Show competitions, and competing whenever the opportunity presents itself. The Step Team will perform at middle schools and cultural events (festivals, Juneteenth, Black History programs etc.). The Step Team Mission is to introduce students to college life, and to build a college atmosphere on our campus. The Step Team believes in the following statement, “Go Hard! Or Go Home!”

Theater (Fall Play)

The theater elective is a chance for students who are interested in performing to put on a full-scale show. For first semester, the play will be student-written. We will work as a group to develop a theme for our piece, generate scenes, rehearse and perform a full play on December 10-12. Students will also be able to work on set, costume, lighting and sound designs to complement the play. This is your chance to express yourself, get your ideas out there and be a star. Please note: rehearsals will run until 5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and there will be some added rehearsals close to showtime. No experience or audition necessary.

Mandarin Chinese Language

你好吗? Speaking, writing and responding to Chinese language. Students will learn the basics of conversational Chinese language. This is a homework intensive class so be prepared! 谢谢!

Guitar

Learn to play Guitar! In this elective, students will be given their own guitar to take home and practice. We will study the fundamentals of Rock 'N Roll, and we will learn and perform songs from the last 50 years of rock history. Learning an instrument is difficult at first, so guitar students must be willing to persevere, practice, and not give up.

Study Hall

Get a good start on your HW with the support of Instructional Assistants. Laptops available as well for your academic work.

Credit Recovery

Gives students in grades 10, 11, or 12 who have received an NC in one to three classes at our school previously to work on contract(s), mostly independently, during the elective time to earn credit for those classes.

Basketball / PE

This elective is not related to the Boys or Girls Basketball teams. Come and play for fun, stay in shape, develop your skills!

Student Activities

Student activities is the place to help make EA the high school YOU want to go to! In student activities we will plan and produce most, if not all, of the school events, including: Dances; School Trips (Snow, Great America, Grad Night), Spirit Week, Prom, Graduation, Talent Show, the Picnic, & other special and routine events. Student Activities will help get out supporters for the sports teams, decorate the school when appropriate, and generally work on the social and community life of the school. Student Activities plans to plant an organic garden in the back and, hopefully, host lunch-time events in the garden area. Student activities will plan events to keep community meetings exciting, provide extra support for the teachers on field trips, and generally support the school community. Remember, this school will be what YOU, the students, make it, and Student Activities is a place to do it!
