Step 6: Editing Artifacts

Contents

Why do I have to edit artifacts?

When you create an artifact like we did in step 4, you are not actually loading your project. It's more like your are just creating a space for your project to go. In order to actually PUT your project in to the portfolio, you have to go to edit artifact. This is also where you will add your reflection for the project.

Editing artifacts

Remember the "Create / Manage Artifacts" main page from step 4? It looks like this:

To edit one of your artifacts, click on the "edit artifact" link on the left side of the screen. You should get a screen that looks like this:

Performance outcome, Faculty, Year, and Artifact Title should already be set up from the step 4, but you can change those here if you need to.

Describe your artifact and attachments here
This should be a short description of what your project was about. One or two sentences should be fine.
Place your artifact reflection
This is where you put your artifact reflection. You may have to create this right now, or you may have written it already. If you have already written it, you can copy and paste into this box. Keep in mind though that the portfolio system will not recognize any paragraphs and spaces you have made in other programs, so you may have to go through and put the paragraph spaces back in.

Adding attachements

This is the area that you will actually upload your project to. In order to add an attachment, press the "Attach file to artifact" button at the top of the screen. You will get to a screen that looks like this:

There are two kinds of attachments:

URL
URL stands for Universal Resource Locator and is just web speak for the web address. Some examples of URL's are:
You will have a URL attachment if you are linking to your work on the internet. This my be a URL to your Prezi or video sharing site. If you are uploading a URL attachment, make sure you fill out the "URL Label" box. This is what your link will show up as on your portfolio. So instead of it looking something like http://www.prezi.com/users/8837623948"/"3843987.php, it will just show up as "My Prezi"
File
This is a regular attachment, aka a file that you will actually upload into the portfolio, not just a link. To upload a file click on the "Choose file" button and find the file on your computer. Make sure your file is one of the approved file types before you upload. Note that attachments have a size limit of 7MB. To see how big your file is, follow these steps:
  1. Click once on the file so that it is selected (do not double click to open.)
  2. From the File menu, select "Get info". A window will open, the top of which will look like this:
  3. The number to the right is the file size. It needs to be less than 7MB to get into the portfolio (Note that KB is LESS than MB, so 128KB is fine, but 128MB is not).

You must hit the Add URL / Attach document button at the bottom in order to actually attach your artifact!

When you have uploaded your project the screen should look like this:

Notice how you can now see the attachments listed at the bottom of the screen

You must hit the "Save Updated Comment and Changes" button at the bottom in order to actually save all your work!

End of this section

Congratulations! You have successfully edited an artifact! Now lets go on to step 7, Submitting Artifacts. Go to next step
