
Rick Gaston - Principal

This is Rick's second year as Principal at Envision Academy and he is thrilled to be here! Before working at EA Rick was a Principal in the Oakland Unified School District for 4 years, and currently lives in East Oakland with his wife and two young sons. He has a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. Rick taught high school math in New Jersey for 10 years, where he also founded and coached the Ultimate Frisbee team. Mr. Gaston is passionate about helping students to learn and develop strong character, and is greatly looking forward to working with our young people this year!

Joseph Serra - Vice Principal of Operations

Joey was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. He attended the University of Florida, and has a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Philosophy. Upon graduation from UF, he joined the Teach for America program which placed him in Oakland. Joey taught at Skyline High School for five years before coming to Envision Academy in 2007 to teach math. Joey has taught math at EA for the last two years. This is his first year as Vice Principal.
While at Skyline High he taught Algebra 1, Algebra A/B, Problem Solving, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, and Student Leadership. Joey has also worked in the Professional Development field, both in Oakland and at Teach for America's summer institute in Los Angeles.

Cathy Jiminez (pictured on right) was born in El Salvador, but raised in the Bay Area, where she attended Fremont High School. Some students call her "Mom"
