A message from Envision Academy Middle Grades Principal, Jessica Fyles:

Hello Oakland Families!

As I’ve said many times, “EAMG lives in our hearts and we will find a home!”  I’m writing to give you an update on our location for 2019-20.

Over the past year, we have been building our founding 6th grade school community, coming together with families across Oakland to share our hopes for middle school. At EAMG, we want to empower all of our students to be lifelong learners with the skills and confidence to succeed in high school, college and beyond. Our students will cultivate a love of learning, build their agency, and see themselves as changemakers. By working with our students starting in 6th grade, we have a tremendous opportunity to get them even more prepared for college.

Currently, at EA high school, where we have the highest African American population of Oakland charter schools, we also have the highest A-G graduation rate for African American students of all the public high schools in Oakland. We have the third highest A-G graduation rate for Latinx students in the city. We are proud of these results and know that it is not enough. We are committed to creating the conditions for our 6th graders to thrive.

Part of our journey this year has been finding a facility to house us for the first year, so we also applied to lease facilities from Oakland Unified (OUSD) through Prop 39 for the 2019-20 school year.  Prop 39 is State Law that requires districts to make an offer of space to charter schools serving students in their district.

This Spring, after approval by OUSD’s Board of Education, we received an offer of facilities at the Lowell Campus in West Oakland, on the same campus as West Oakland Middle School (WOMS).  We have accepted OUSD’s offer for 2019-20. This will be our home for Year 1.

We look forward to creating strong relationships and building community with WOMS in order to support all of Oakland students and families on the Lowell Campus. At EAMG, our community will live by the same Core Values as our high school – justice, community, self-discipline, respect and growth – as we continue to strive for excellent outcomes for all children. We believe that through collaboration we can achieve those outcomes.
